TEXAS – Cities across the entire state of Texas are dealing with freezing temperatures, and several are taking extra precautions to make sure their most vulnerable populations are safe and warm.

Below is a list of cold weather shelters in Fort Worth, Arlington, Austin, and San Antonio.

Fort Worth

The Tarrant County Homeless Coalition says those in need should first go to the Presbyterian Night Shelter at 2400 Cypress Street.

Once those beds are full, people in need will be directed to either the Union Gospel Mission, the Salvation Amy Mabee Center, or the Center for Transforming Lives.

Arlington

Those in need are directed to go to the Arlington Life Shelter, according to the Tarrant County Homeless Coalition.

When those beds fill, overflow shelters will be opened at the Salvation Army and SafeHaven. Transportation will be provided to those from the Arlington Life Shelter.

Austin

Single adults in need of shelter are directed to go to the Austin Central Library at 710 W Cesar Chavez between 6 and 8 p.m.

Families should go to the Downtown Salvation Army shelter at 501 E. 8th Street by 6 p.m.

San Antonio

City officials say Haven for Hope is open to anyone in need of housing. Those who have never received help from the organization are asked to register at the Donation Center at 1 Haven for Hope Way, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Families with children can register anytime, day or night.

With the cold weather, the group is expanding after-hours sleeping accommodations.

Additionally, the Salvation Army Dave Coy Men’s Shelter will be open. Adults need a photo ID and must enroll between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. daily.

The South Alamo Regional Alliance for the Homeless (SARAH) is collecting jackets, blankets, socks and other cold-weather items. Those wishing to donate and people in need of the items can go to the San Fernando Homeless Resource Hub. Donations are accepted Monday through Friday from 1 to 4 p.m.
