DALLAS – This year the State Fair of Texas will be a drive-thru experience and Big Tex will be doing his part to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.

What You Need To Know

  • Drive-through fair lasts 4 weekends

  • Participants must order food in advance

  • Can get a professional photo with Big Tex

According to the state fair’s website, the drive-thru fair will be held over four weekends in September and October.

The way it works is families will pre-order a “food package” that include orders of fair food favorites like corny dogs, kettle corn, and friend Oreos.

When you purchase the package, you’ll be given a designated day and window entry time to take a photo with Big Tex and get your food.

The website says the drive-through should take no more than an hour and a half once you enter the gate.

One event highlight is the ability to take a photo with Big Tex while he wears a giant face mask.

“In a year of many firsts, this historic event will offer Fair lovers the opportunity for a once-in-a-lifetime photo and experience,” read the fair’s website.

If you don’t want to buy food, there are two days where ticket holders will just get to enter to take a professional photo with Big Tex.

Most of the money raised from the drive-through will go to support State Fair of Texas operations so they can bring back the fair next year. A portion of the money will also go to the North Texas Food Bank.

In July, fair organizers announced they were canceling the annual event for the first time since WWII but were since able to organize the drive-through food event.
