CEDAR PARK, Texas — A standoff in Cedar Park Monday morning exceeded 16 hours in duration following a shooting Sunday afternoon that injured three police officers.

The officers had been responding to a call at a home on Natalie Cove, near South Bagdad Road, when a suspect opened fired, striking three of them. The officers were stabilized at a hospital and it's not believe their injuries are life-threatening.

According to Mike Harmon, interim chief of the Cedar Park Police Department, about 3:10 p.m. Sunday police received a call from a woman who said her son had kicked in the door of her home and was acting aggressively. When officers arrived, they were fired upon and returned fire. It's not known if the suspect was struck or injured.

The suspect then barricaded himself inside the home, Harmon said, with three other people, believed to be his mother, another adult, and a child. It's believed they are all family members. Just after 8 a.m. Monday, the Cedar Park Police Department reported that two of the hostages had been released. About 9 a.m., police reported the suspect had surrendered and the last hostage was freed.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene. Harmon said officers have responded to calls from the home before. It's believed the suspect is a man in his 20s and that he has a history of mental health issues.
