SAN ANTONIO -- Audra Hernandez is enjoying her first time eating out in more than a month.

  • Restaurants are limited to 25% occupancy
  • Tables must be 6 feet apart
  • Menus must be disposable

On Saturday, she ate lunch with a friend at The Lion and Rose Pub in The Rim Shopping Center.

"I'm very happy to be outside, in the open with fresh air," said Hernandez.

Tables are six feet apart and menus are disposed after one use. Just one of many steps recommended for restaurants by the State of Texas' most recent health guidelines.

"We had to direct traffic with tape and signs to make sure people are entering one way and exiting a different way," said Cameren Burdick, restaurant manager.

For now, restaurants are limited to a 25 percent occupancy. For this pub, it means only 70 patrons are allowed inside to dine at one time. Before the pandemic, more than 200 people were allowed.

"It's fantastic to be out here," said Mike Dell, another patron.

For bigger restaurants like The Rustic San Antonio, 25 percent occupancy means up to 200 guests at a time are allowed.

"As long as people stay safe and listen to the rules and ordinances, I don't see a problem," Dell said.

For those in no rush to eat out, curbside and delivery are still an open at the pub and other neighboring restaurants. However, many hope people will start considering dining in.

"All of our staff is aware of the guideline. We are all being very safe and trying to keep everyone happy," said Burdick.
