TEXAS -- As businesses across the state close to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, people are already dealing with the brutal economic hit.

Unemployment claims in Texas are soaring. The Texas Workforce Commission reports last week alone, there were 16,000 Texans who filed for unemployment.

Combined with the steep drop in oil prices, it's still unclear just how deeply the state's economy will be impacted. The Trump administration has put together a $1 trilion economic stimulus package, which includes direct payments for individuals, but it's still not known when those payments will arrive.

Economist Michael Sadler spoke with Capital Tonight about the economic effects of the coronavirus. You can watch the whole interview above.
