SAN ANTONIO – Impact Wrestling star Tessa Blanchard doesn’t have trouble fighting with the men— the 24-year-old is the first woman to win a men’s world championship.
However, one of Blanchard’s greatest challenges happened outside of the squared circle when she and her fiancé went through SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape) training at Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) Lackland-Medina Annex.
“We are responsible for training all of the Air Force and DOD’s high risk of isolation or high risk of capture personnel on things related to survival in a global environment,” said Sgt. Daniel Jones, an SERE specialist master.
Blanchard, whose older brother is an Army ROTC Cadet at UTSA, wanted to experience the SERE training first hand.
“I had the opportunity to come on the Air Force base and just kind of see what their life is like, what their everyday is like,” Blanchard said, "what is normal to them and kind of get to experience it.”
