SAN ANTONIO — A blast from the past has made its way back to the Northeast side of San Antonio. The Santikos Rialto movie theatre had been closed to undergo renovations that would bring back the iconic name, Galaxy theatre.

Inside the new theatre moviegoers will see classic movie fonts and self serving ticket kiosks as soon as you walk in. The new movie theatre brings in new technology with an old 80s nostalgic feel. From self-serving popcorn to drink machines, the transformation of the theatre is breathtaking, even for classic movie buffs.

"It’s amazing. When I walked in I was like woah," said moviegoer Michelle Hernandez. "It’s no longer the Rialto or the previous galaxy, it just feels different."

Hernandez and her husband, Juan, used to frequently visit the classic theatre in the 90s.

"When we were dating, we would come here on our dates," said Hernandez.

As Santikos employees, like 13 year veteran Sarah Luis, began brainstorming on the next new idea for the iconic theatre, she and others knew to bring what was nearly long forgotten, back to life.

"But then it was like wait, do we really have to change what we already had," said Luis. "It works, so why not bring it back to what people know, bring back that history when they see the word galaxy on the building."

The theatre has ten movie screens to view movies.
