SAN ANTONIO — This Halloween those trick-or-treating will be knocking on doors, looking for their next stash of creamy chocolates and sweet candy corn to take home and devour.

  • Open since 1991
  • Favorites include cherry bombs and bloody gummy worms

Among those treats, may be some sour and spicy candies from Alamo Candy Company.

Since 1991, the Samame family has operated the San Antonio based business. It offers a variety of handmade Mexican candy for customers like Lydia Harrison.

“The pickle salt, oh my God, that one they should’ve never made,” Harrison laughed.

Harrison is a longtime customer. She also recommends the mangonadas.

“Those are really good,” she said.

Returning customers make business sweet for General Manage Felix Rick Samame. He says the only challenge is when the line goes all the way around the aisles of their Blanco store. Some days they have 10 to 20 customers checking out on one register.

He says they’ll soon be moving into a new building just down the road. It will be three times the size of their current location, allowing customers to check out more of their candies with ease.
