SAN MARCOS — Grammy, Emmy, and Oscar winner Common is encouraging college students to live their truths.

  • Speech was part of LBJ Distinguished Lecture Series
  • Free for Texas State students

The rapper, actor, and author took the stage at Texas State University's Strahan Arena Tuesday before a sold-out crowd of students, staff, and faculty.

He talked about fatherhood, his hip-hop career, and his dedication to social change.

Common told students to use their time at Texas State to find their purpose.

“I want to encourage each and every one of you, whatever your major may be. I want you to think about the things that you love to do. I want you to think about the things that you wake up wanting to participate in, that may be a part of your purpose,” said Common.
