SAN ANTONIO — Gordon Hartman, the man behind Morgan's Wonderland, was recently recognized by the State of Texas when he was awarded the Governor's Trophy for his support of those with disabilities.
- Award is for his support of people with disabilities
- Morgan's Wonderland is theme park accessible to all abilities
- Hartman wants to do even more
Good luck getting him to talk about it.
"I appreciate the award and people come to me and say, 'I heard you got the award,'" said Hartman. "Those are nice, but I wish I could kind of cut it up in a thousand pieces and give it to everybody because really, I start a process and people really make it all happen."
The ultra-accessible theme park has welcomed millions of guests of all ages and abilities from all over the world, but the man behind its creation isn't done giving back.
"We're just getting started," Hartman proclaimed. "Some of the new things that we're getting ready to do in the next two, three years are going to take what we've done and move it to a whole new level."
That new level includes upcoming projects like a 3-acre sports complex for differently-abled athletes, a year-round summer camp for those with and without disabilities, and a soon-to-be announced 165,000-square-foot complex that will assist people with medical, therapeutic, and social services all under one roof.
Hartman remains driven and says the projects and ideas don't stop there, mentioning he's met with representatives from the nation's airports about improving their access and support for the disabled and those with special needs.
"The need is there, and the passion is there, and I just say the words why not," Hartman said.
