SAN ANTONIO -- Crickets, crickets, and more crickets are invading homes, restaurants, and school yards all over Central Texas. Whether you're in Austin or down south in San Antonio, a surge in cricket appearances can be found and sometimes felt.

Earlier this week, a school about 30 minutes north of San Antonio found itself facing a cricket crisis. Van Raub Elementary School principal Jamie Robinson says his students found a natural solution.
"The kids were the ones who started the whole let’s feed the crickets to the chickens," said Robinson.
From there, the chicken versus cricket battle began.

"Problem solving, the fact that the kids came together and thought about this genius idea, especially because protein for the chickens," said Judy Cook, a parent at the elementary school.
With a principal willing to risk it all, and a hungry troop of hens, the sound of crickets chirping through the night may be faint at Van Raub Elementary school.
