"I was 11 years old but I heard it was 1989," said Crystal Kinman of the Historic District of Gruene. "But we’re thrilled to have the exposure. The country music radio stations are doing a great job promoting it."
If you didn't know, Gruene is an old German cotton community. The hall was built as the social center for the community.
"Most of it is original," said Kinman. "We’ve had to replace some floors and put on a fresh coat of paint every once in a while."
According to Kinman, the owners of Gruene Hall are very protective of it and don’t want much to change.
Newcomers have more than just the historic hall to look forward to, as boutiques, shops and restaurants also make Gruene come alive in its own way.
"We feel like Gruene is a whole experience, it’s just a beautiful community and it’s got all the historic buildings," said Kinman."There’s over 25 shops here in Gruene. We’ve got several restaurants, a B&B, wine tasting then then of course you’ve got Texas’ oldest dance hall."
And it's not just locals that adore the area.
"Nine-hundred-seventy-three miles to get here," said a visitor from St Louis. "We love the little small towns, the flowers and the little stores and shops."
The quaint town of Gruene, along the Guadalupe River, seems to have a little something for everyone, including a country music star.
Tickets to see Brooks must be won through local country radio stations.
