The short-term outlook looks bleak: as sweltering hot high pressure moves over the Lone Star State, triple digit temperatures will be more common around the Alamo City. It's a downright dangerous scenario that could last for more than a week.

So far this summer, the "heat dome" has been centered to our west with the most brutal temps, but that's about to change.  Forecast models show the upper-level ridge gradually carrying the core of heat directly over the I-35 corridor through at least the middle of next week before the pattern shows any signs of shifting again.

Our forecast calls for afternoon highs to top out from upper 90s today to around 102-103 by Saturday & Sunday.

With abundant humidity in place, we can count on an even more oppressive heat index closer to 110. Make your plans accordingly, and be sure they include plenty of time indoors during the afternoon hours along with lots of hydration.

The next weather change might involve another summer "cold" front. Some of our models hint a cooler north wind trying to push across Texas by next Wednesday or Thursday. Stay tuned!

In the meantime, make sure you're taking extra steps to keep cool and hydrated. Don't forget about your pets, too, and never leave kids or pets unattended in a car, not even for just a minute.
