BLANCO COUNTY, Texas -- A charter tour bus caught fire in Blanco County Thursday morning, bringing traffic to a standstill and sending huge plumes of smoke into the air.
The Blanco County Sheriff's Office confirmed the bus caught fire after 10 a.m. on U.S. Route 281 near Ranch Road 1323.
There were no immediate reports of injuries. Later, EMS confirmed that six kids between the ages of 12 and 15 years old were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The tour bus belongs to the San Antonio-based Imperial Bus Company.
According to Rick Godwin, founder and senior pastor of the Summit Christian Center in San Antonio, the bus was bringing kids back from a camp. He further said all the children exited the bus safely and that the bus is a total loss. Godwin additionally said about 200 kids were on four buses, one of which caught fire, and that all parents have been notified of the situation.
