SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio restaurant was named in America’s Top 16 Best New Restaurants by Eater.com, it was announced Wednesday.

  • The Jerk Shack launched in 2018
  • Recently celebrated 1-year anniversary

The list considered top hot spots from foodie hubs in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Portland, San Francisco and now San Antonio’s new favorite, The Jerk Shack.

Owners Chef Nicola Blaque and Cornelius Massey, who are married, launched The Jerk Shack in 2018 and quickly became recognized for their crispy fried jerk wings and mac combo, spicy oxtails, and jerk chicken tacos.

The couple introduced The Jerk Truck, a mobile jerk food truck, during SXSW 2019 at Huston-Tillotson College. Serving grilled wings, jerk pork belly bowls, and banh-mi sandwiches, The Jerk Truck has a been a crowd favorite at several citywide events.

“I am overjoyed and honored to be among the Top 16 Restaurants in America list,” Blaque said. “As a Jamaican immigrant and veteran, I am delighted to do what I love in a country I have given my blood, sweat and tears for.”

The Jerk Shack recently celebrated its one-year anniversary with a block party on a portion Matyear Street. Twenty small business vendors and 500 Jerk Shack fans came together to enjoy music, shopping, and of course the famous jerk menu.
