SAN ANTONIO – The Fourth of July is right around the corner and Bexar County firefighters want you and your family to stay safe.

  • Officials advise to have water supply nearby
  • Fireworks illegal in suburban cities
  • No current restrictions in unincorporated areas

If you plan on popping off your own fireworks, officials advise to stay clear from any hazards and always have a water supply nearby.

Fireworks are illegal in suburban cities including San Antonio. However, there are no current restrictions preventing you from sparking them off in unincorporated areas of the county. Officials say the safest way to enjoy fireworks is by not lighting them yourself.

"We recommend that those that want to go and celebrate Independence Day, that they go and see a fireworks show that's being put on by professionals," said Bexar County Fire Marshal Ralph Rodriguez.

People caught lighting fireworks within 600 feet of a hospital or school can face a fine up to $1,000.
