SAN ANTONIO - After twelve surgeries over the past five years, Steven Armstrong and his family now have a new outlook on life thanks to an elective surgery.

  • Had elective below-knee amputation
  • Says his life changed for the better

"I was very limited in what I could do. Not just the pain, but I couldn't even walk really," Steven Armstrong said.

It's been a long road for 41-year-old father of three. Both of his ankles and legs were fractured after falling off his roof in 2013. His left leg had already been severely injured from playing sports. Armstrong said he gained weight, was depressed, and missed out on family moments with his kids.

In January, that all changed when an elective below-knee amputation opened new doors.

After being fit with a custom-designed prosthetic leg from the Hanger Clinic, he's able to enjoy life again. He coaches baseball, lost twenty pounds, and his nine year old daughter Mackenzie sees him in a different light.

"Her seeing me up and at 'em, getting around, doing agility ladders, and working out with my boys, and it's all new and fresh to her. It's really cool," he said.
