SAN ANTONIO — Glitter, flowers, and you guessed it... more glitter.
- 15,000 flowers used for floats
- Volunteers put on parade
- The tradition started in 1891
With Fiesta in full swing, organizations across the Alamo City are putting the finishing touches on their events. We stopped by to visit with the ladies putting 15,000 flowers on the Battle of Flowers Parade Floats.
"Totally a volunteer organization that puts on the parade," said Rhonda Calvert with the Battle of Flowers Association.
The parade has been going strong since 1891 and honors the fallen heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto.
"You will see the Clydesdales again. You will see some beautiful floats," Calvert said.
This year's parade theme is "For the Love of Texas" and you're going to see a lot of floats incorporating that message.
"So we are doing this for the love of Texas, for the love of San Antonio, and for all the 350,000 spectators who will be at our parade," she said.
Fiesta royalty will be announced this Wednesday at the Order of the Alamo's Coronation.
The parade will take place Friday, April 26.
