SAN ANTONIO — A man was killed in a shooting during a basketball game at Lady Bird Johnson Park late Tuesday night.

  • One man has died
  • Police still searching for suspect
  • Park is now closed

Ramiro Longoria, 28, was shot in the head.

Officers say a fight broke out, and that's when one of the players shot multiple rounds toward the others. Another man was shot in the leg and taken to the hospital, he's expected to be OK.

Another player was grazed by a bullet and treated at the scene. Police are still looking for the suspect. San Antonio Mom Carla Boyd likes to think of Lady Bird Johnson Park as a place where her kids can just be kids.

"We moved out here about 5 months ago and it's not too far from the house. We usually come early in the morning so it's pretty safe form what we know of we actually took the little walking trail down the way," she said.

Less than 24 hours ago, it was a different story at the park.

"It was senseless. There's probably not one of us standing here who hasn't played a pickup basketball game, but to pull out a gun because of a fight in a pick-up basketball game just doesn't make any sense," said San Antonio Police Chief William McManus.

Police don't believe that anyone else was in danger at the park.

"It is shocking. Honestly I didn't know about it until this morning I didn't know what was going on. I thought they were building something. But it is surprising and it's sad. Our prayers go out to the families and hopefully everything turns out well with the justice system on that end, but yeah it is surprising," Boyd said.

However, despite what happened, Carla said they'll be back.

"There's multiple parks around the neighborhood. We try to venture out to different ones, but we're still going to come around," she said.

The park is closed until the police have finished processing the scene.
