SAN ANTONIO -- The Alliance of American Football has suspended operations just eight weeks after launching.
It has previously been reported problems include the AAF’s inability to secure cooperation from the NFL’s Players’ Association to use young NFL plyers.
According to the Associated Press, the league has notified most employees that they will be terminated as of Wednesday. Those employees were informed of the development via a letter from the board Tuesday afternoon. The decision to cease operations was largely made by majority owner Tom Dundon, who also owns the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes.
The letter additionally said a small staff will remain to seek new investment capital and "restructure our business. Should those efforts prove successful, we look forward to working with many of you on season two."
AAF co-founder Bill Polian told the Associated Press that the decision to suspend football operations was about money.
The AAF’s San Antonio Commanders play home game at the Alamodome and were next scheduled to play the Memphis Express on Saturday, April 6.
