SAN ANTONIO -- The San Antonio Police Department about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday reported one of its officers was involved in a shooting.

  • Police received reports of armed woman at shopping center
  • Police sergeant confronted woman armed with Uzi
  • Woman pointed gun at sergant, department said  

According to San Antonio Police Chief Williams McManus, the department received a call about a woman with a gun tucked in the back of her sweatpants and acting distraught at the Huebner Commons Shopping Center, located at 9023 Huebner Road, on San Antonio's Northwest Side.

McManus confirmed that the weapon she had was an Uzi, a hand-held machine gun.

A police sergeant happened to be on the property at the time the call came in. When he approached the 23-year-old woman, he gave her several commands. She slowly turned around and pointed it at the sergeant and he shot her multiple times. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sergeant involved is a 23-year veteran of the police force. He will be placed on administrative duty.

The investigation is ongoing.
