SAN ANTONIO – On Saturday, January 26, San Antonio Water System and the City of San Antonio are cosponsoring a collection event for expired medications and household hazardous waste.

  • Since 2009 more than 23 tons of medicine collected
  • No cost to dispose of medications
  • Household hazardous waste also accepted

The MedDropSA program helps keep pharmaceuticals out of the environment and can help curb abuse and avoid accidental poisoning. Since 2009, more than 23 tons of medicine has been collected.

Through MedDropSA, residents can dispose of unused or out-of-date medicines safely at no cost. Events are in partnership with San Antonio’s Household Hazardous Waste Mobile Collection. Attendees stay in their cars, dropping off unwanted medications. They can also drop off household hazardous waste with the City’s HHW Mobile Collection area.

Event information:

• Saturday, Jan. 26
• 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
• City of S.A. Bulky Waste Collection Center
2755 Rigsby Ave. San Antonio, Texas

To bring medicines to the event:

•  Dump pills out of the plastic bottles and into a plastic Ziploc bag
• Liquids and aerosols can stay in their original containers, but remove labels

Needles, syringes, lancets, and auto injectors, including epinephrine and insulin pens, will not be accepted. There are no residency requirements to drop off private-use prescriptions or other medications for MedDropSA. Household hazardous waste disposal does require a recent CPS Energy bill showing that you are a solid waste rate payer.

MedDropSA is sponsored by San Antonio Water System, the San Antonio Police Department and the City of San Antonio. For more information, visit the MedDropSA website.
