CANYON LAKE, Texas - Canyon Lake Fire on Monday reported two people died in a mobile home fire that broke out early in the morning.

  • Fire broke out about 4 a.m. Monday
  • Firefighters recovered bodies of 2 people and 2 pets
  • Cause of fire under investigation 

The fire was reported about 4:15 a.m. in the 300 block of Dreamland Drive. Arriving crews reported flames showing from within a single-wide mobile home.

Firefighters met with a neighbor who informed them that the home’s occupants may have been inside. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and located a person in a rear bedroom. He was pronounced dead at 5:08 a.m.

A second victim was located deceased with severe burns. Two dogs died in the fire as well. 

The identities of the victims have not yet been released. The fire marshal said that while the cause of the fire has yet to be determined, an investigation revealed the home had several space heaters and extension cords. 

"I can't stress the importance of working smoke detectors in a home,"Canyon Lake Fire Chief Darren  Brinkkoeter​ said. "Right now, it does not appear that was the case here so I can't stress that just the early detection, no matter what. People really need to take the time to check their smoke detectors and make sure they're actually present and working."

The fire is being investigated by the Comal County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Comal County Sheriff’s Office.
