AUSTIN, Texas — Two hundred volunteers with Meals on Wheels Central Texas delivered meals to elderly and homebound Texans on Christmas Day.

“We have an aging, growing aging population, in our community. Many of them do not have the resources to take care of themselves and that’s why Meals on Wheels Central Texas exists,” Adam Hauser, president and CEO said.

On Tuesday, volunteers picked up 500 meals and went on 60 different routes across Central Texas. To celebrate Christmas, meals came with gift bags that included a blanket, socks, toiletries and other practical items.

Austin resident Jack Frost has been volunteering with Meals on Wheels for a decade. Frost said it is a tradition and plans the day around the delivery.

“My husband and myself, we’ve been public servants for a long time, and this is just an easy way to volunteer and give to people to who on Christmas Day in particular, we could be the only people they see all day,” Frost said.

Among the seven seniors on Frost’s Southeast Travis County delivery route was 86-year-old Korean War Veteran, Bernardo Romero.

“I enjoyed it so much because they make my day,” Romero said.
