SAN ANTONIO - It’s the holiday sports event in Central Texas. On December 2, it was announced Iowa State and Washington State will face off in the Valero Alamo Bowl at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

The game is an annual contest between the top teams in the Big-12 and Pac-12 conferences.

This year is particularly intriguing because the game will mark the first time the teams meet. 

The game is set for Friday, December 28, and will air on ESPN at 8 p.m.

This will mark the 26th edition of the Alamo Bowl. The game generates millions of dollars for the San Antonio economy and in addition more than a million dollars in scholarships will be donated to local high school and college students.

Iowa State coach Matt Campbell and Washington State coach Mike Leach visited San Antonio on December 7 in preparation for the game.

“The excitement around our student-athletes and our university were second to none,” Campbell said.

As of December 17, tickets were still available for the game. 

If parking and transportation are a concern, VIA Transit is offering service to the game at the following locations:

  • Mandla Transit Center, 1584 Cantrell Dr.
