SAN ANTONIO -- Thousands of unwrapped toys were transformed by San Antonio's Fire Training Academy during a Santa's workshop on Saturday.

  • Toys from Santa's Firefighter Toy Drive
  • Hundreds of volunteers wrapped gifts for assigned child
  • Firefighters deliver gifts to 4,000 local children

Toy dolls to footballs covered the floors of the academy's classrooms.

The overload of toys was from the department's Santa's Firefighter Toy Drive collection.

Hundreds of volunteers lined up to pick out gifts for their assigned child.

Volunteers then wrapped up the gifts, making them ready for delivery.

“These firefighters are gonna go out in the neighborhoods near their fire station where they serve. So it’s a chance to bond with the community, it’s a chance to bring some joy to families that are suffering this time of year and maybe wouldn’t have a Christmas without us,” Fire Chief Woody Woodward said.

Firefighters will deliver gifts to more than 4,000 children in the area before Christmas.
