SAN ANTONIO – The City of San Antonio unanimously approved an ordinance amending the funding agreement with the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center’s Progreso Pharmacy venue on Thursday.
- Funds to improve inside of facility
- Remodeling of Progreso Pharmacy, visual arts venue
- Councilwoman Shirley Gonzales issues statement
The amount is set not to exceed $450,000 for continued improvements to the inside of the facility, and will support the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center Project.
“The entire Guadalupe Cultural Arts complex, including the Teatro Guadalupe, and all the important work being done there is not just for the surrounding community or just for San Antonio, it truly is a gift to our state, our nation and to the world,” Councilman Shirley Gonzales said.
According to a statement from Gonzales, funds will go towards the completion of a remodeling project of the old Progreso Pharmacy, which is now a visual arts venue.
It is located in the heart of the city’s Mexican-American community and recognized as one reason why people come to San Antonio in large numbers.
The internationally renowned Tejano Conjunto Festival and the nationally acclaimed Cinefestival are both hosted at the location.
