LEON VALLEY, Texas – After being shut down by the Leon Valley Fire Department on Wednesday, the San Antonio Aquarium is expected to open next Monday or Tuesday.
- Closed because of unsecure propane tanks and heaters
- Fire Chief wanted to work towards re-opening
- Leon Valley city officials met with aquarium staff
Aquarium staff announced the news Friday morning.
The fire department originally said unsecure propane tanks and heaters created risk of leaking carbon monoxide and flammable gas.

“Our goal is to get them open, not to keep them closed. We just need to make sure that the building is safe for people and safe for the animals,” Leon Valley Fire Chief Michael Naughton said on Wednesday.
Leon Valley city officials were expected to meet with the aquarium’s attorneys and management.
