SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office displayed its new drone program on Thursday.

The BCSO is the first law enforcement agency in the county to add drones to its arsenal.

The flying gadgets will be used for cases such as reconstructing crashes and major crime scenes, including standoffs and homicides. Some drones will patrol areas like the jail.

“We use them to monitor some of the rooftops and things of that nature that we can’t get to around the jail so effectively. The drones will be able to help us access areas of the jail we can’t necessarily see,” Sheriff Javier Salazar said.

The office received a total of four drones, plus training and other equipment.
