Patricia Slack, Roundtree's mother, filed a lawsuit to sue the city and Officer Steve Casanova. The lawsuit claims Officer Casanova used excessive force, resulting in the death Slack’s 18-year old son.

A representative of the city said they have not been served with the lawsuit.

Earlier this week, police arrested a man following the incident. Davante Snowden was charged with Felony Possession of a firearm. According to an affidavit, Snowden was one of four men at the apartment when Roundtree died.

The officer who pulled the trigger is on administrative duty during the investigation.

On Friday night, the family held a demonstration outside Public Safety Headquarters. They hope their efforts will bring attention to Roundtree’s case.

"We are going to follow this from point A to point Z, you know, we want to make sure this family feels comfortable in the community again. We want to make sure this young man rests peacefully and the only way that is going to be done is when justice is served. true justice is served,” Organizer Darrell Boyd said.
