SAN ANTONIO -- Police and K-9 officers from South and Central Texas are getting a hands-on look at how to handle explosives in the field.

Dozens of teams from from military, federal, state and local municipalities were in San Antonio for training in vehicle sweeps, unattended bags, building searches and homemade explosive detection.

SAISD's Alamo Stadium hosted the training event.

The K-9s worked through these scenarious with their explosives detection dog handler.

"All he's really working for is his toy. He doesn't really understand that it's work," said Ron Miller of Homeland Security Federal Protective Security. "To him it's just hide-and-seek. It's just a game and when he finds something or does something that we want him to do he gets to play with his toy ."

Training like this happens every three months at a different location.

The locations are usually places that K-9 Explosives Detection Units would be called to.
