SAN ANTONIO – Human remains - including an intact human skull - are being investigated by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office and the Medical Examiner.
They were found in a wooded area in Southwest Bexar County Wednesday, and their discovery kept law enforcement busy.
Two people riding horses along Gross Lane took a break and went for a walk. It was then that they found the skull.
This area is a couple miles southwest of Highway 90.
The sheriff's office says it looks like animals probably were to blame for spreading a lot of the bones apart.
"The bones appear to be decayed to the point where it's too difficult to make a determination at this time. So making that identification and gender identity is going to be quite difficult. Which is why we're resorting to dental records at this time," said Bexar County Sheriff's spokesman Johnny Garcia.
The sheriff's office also said it's possible a nearby creek, or the Medina River running just behind the woods could have played a role in the remains ending up in that part of the woods.
If you know anyone that has gone missing lately or if you have any additional information, you're asked to call the sheriff's office.
