SAN ANTONIO —The Guide Dogs of Texas is in need of puppy fosters for its newest litter of seven.

Five-month-old Keller is from the previous litter and is training to be a guide for the blind and visually impaired. His foster family is training him basic obedience for the next 16-18 months before Keller begins his advance sight training.

The local organization is currently searching for seven more volunteers to raise its newest puppies.

"What a proposition, you get a ball of fur and then three years later the dogs in service and helping someone, it doesn't get much better than that you're giving back to the community," Mike Vonschaumburg, Keller's foster dad said.

Once trained, dogs can provide up to eight years of guided sight to a visually impaired Texan.
