SAN ANTONIO - A new military-focused nonprofit is helping local veterans make their house a home after returning home deployment.

VetStrong provides home essentials to previously homeless vets. Gently used couches, linens and other furniture are collected then distributed by the volunteer-based nonprofit to those in need.

Representatives with VetStrong said at least 600 veterans have been identified as rehoused in Bexar County. Volunteers hope their efforts help reintegrate veterans back into society.

"There was a gap in being able to provide furniture like this to the veterans, so that is where we are filling in and getting it to the right people," said Barbara Walz, co-founder.

Saturday, the nonprofit launched their services with a new warehouse at 1735 Babcock Road. Gently-used or new household items and a moving truck are among the things the nonprofit is searching for.
