SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Water System (SAWS) is enforcing Stage 2 water restrictions that will go into effect Tuesday June 12.

San Antonio has been under Stage 1 drought restrictions but dry, hot weather conditions have caused the Edwards Aquifer 10-day average to drop from 650 feet.

Watering restrictions are not suggestions--they are municipal laws that will be enforced. Robert R. Puente, president and CEO of SAWS said.

“Contracting police officers are patrolling and they can issue citations if they witness violations,” Puente said.

New restrictions will shorten watering hours, but watering days will remain the same. Between 7-11 a.m. and 7-11 p.m. watering with a sprinkler, irrigation system or soaker is allowed, except on the weekends. Hand-held watering is allowed any time on any day.

Watering days are determined by the last number of your address:

  • 0 or 1 – Monday
  • 2 or 3 – Tuesday
  • 4 or 5 – Wednesday
  • 6 or 7 – Thursday
  • 8 or 9 – Friday
  • No watering on the weekends

“During drought, SAWS focuses on education. Now that we have been in restrictions for three weeks, our customers have had the opportunity to get accustomed to drought rules once again,” Puente said.

Don’t forget to follow these three year-round watering rules:

  • Water waste is prohibited at all times. This includes lawn watering overspray and runoff.
  • Restaurants may serve water only on request (to reduce dishwashing).
  • Charity car washes allowed only at commercial car wash facilities

For more information, visit saws.org/drought. To report water waste, report online at saws.org/WaterWaste or call 210-704-SAVE (210-704-7283) with as much information as possible, including location, time of day, and length of time.
