SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio firefighters have been busy Wednesday morning rescuing people from high waters.
By 5 a.m., SAFD had been called to nine water rescues with one captured live on Spectrum News at Thousand Oaks and Interstate 35.
A man at the scene of the rescue said that he heard a woman screaming and called 911. A man and a woman were rescued from the waters before they were swept away. The woman was treated for exposure.
Drivers are reminded to “turn around don’t drown.” Even in what seems like shallow water, tires can easily float lifting up the largest vehicle and drifting them downstream.
Vehicles can also stall in just a few inches of water.
Driving around a low water barricade is punishable by a fine up to $2,000 and 180 days in jail if a rescue is required.
