SEGUIN, Texas — The DEA, U.S. Marshal’s Service and local law enforcement carried out a a large-scale drug bust in Guadalupe County Thursday morning.
On March 22, DEA agents confirm that 19 people were arrested in connection with drug trafficking in the Seguin area. Out of the 19, one person was from Laredo.
Law enforcement had been trafficking both heroin and meth in "Operation Raging Bull," and executed 16 arrest warrants. DEA coordinated with Seguin Police Department on the raid.
It's believed that those arrested are part of the Mexican Mafia, a U.S.-based gang.
"Narcotics is a large financial support for prison gangs and other gangs, so the likelihood that they are related to the Mexican Mafia and/or other prison gangs is very strong," Seguin Police Department Chief Kevin Kelso said.
Thursday's raid was the culmination of a 7-month investigation.
According to the most recently published CDC data, in calendar year 2016 there were 63,600 drug-related deaths. With 63,600 drug-related deaths in 2016, that is approximately 174 people each day that die from drug abuse or 5,220 people each month.
