SAN ANTONIO — Brackenridge Park sits in the middle of lots of activity.

The Witte Museum is on one side, the San Antonio Zoo is across the way on the other side.

Last summer, the Parks and Recreation Department set out to gather ideas from the community on what people would like to see change at the park.

After several months of surveys and research, the parks department is now presenting its findings.

They found 99 percent of the 250 people surveyed out at the park supported three things —  improving water quality at the park, preserving/restoring the park’s historical features and increasing park visibility and pedestrian access.

"I think what we discovered though this master plan process is that there is a lot of emotion centered around this park for good reason and we took an extra step at the urging of the councilman to really make sure we went above and beyond to engage the community,” said Xavier Urrutia with the Parks Department.

Some of the improvements would have be paid for through the 2017 bond that goes before voters in May.

The latest meeting was meant to get council up to date on what the community recommended.

The final Brackenridge Park master plan will go up for a vote next month.
