SAN ANTONIO, Texas—Construction plans for a new 43-acre park on the Southside are underway.

A new urban linear park will connect Brooks City Base to the San Antonio River.

Wednesday, the City of San Antonio, San Antonio River Authority, and Brooks City Base celebrated the first phase of work on Greenline park. The new destination will not only have recreational and fitness features, it will also include commercial establishments like retail, restaurants, and residential communities.

City leaders believe the park will attract new employers and better paying jobs to the Southside.

“Our bull’s-eye is marquee employer. How do we define a marquee employer? Someone that employs at least 100 people, and pays more than $43,000 a year. That’s what we’re pursuing,” said Brooks President and CEO Leo Gomez.

Part of the park plans will also include a new water filtration system.

“$2 million worth of our budget for this project is dedicated to a system that’s going to make sure we treat that water as it needs to be treated and filtered before it drains into the San Antonio River,” said Gomez

The $10.6 million park is scheduled to be completed in Spring of 2018.
