Studying physics can take you to the stars – and open you to a whole world of opportunities.
The University of Texas at San Antonio and the Southwest Research Institute teamed up to host the Conferences for Undergraduate Women in Physics this weekend. Women from all across the country came to the Alamo City to network and learn more about the opportunities in the field of physics.
One of the highlights was a discussion with NASA's first female Hispanic flight director, Ginger Kerrick. She met with the students and gave them advice on picking majors and breaking into the field.
"They just need to see what's out there, stay focused, be determined, don't let anybody tell you, ‘No, because…’ There should always be an approach where you can, 'Yes, if…'" Kerrick said.
Throughout the weekend, the students will learn in workshops and take laboratory tours through the Southwest Research Institute.
