The San Antonio Police Department says it's working to improve the way it handles domestic violence cases.
The department is teaming up with domestic violence resource centers to better assess victims' needs on scene. The plan is to train officers to ask certain questions to find out if victims need immediate help.
Police say the quick response may save victims from becoming victims again.
"If we can get them the appropriate help and resources quicker, we can avoid those types of incidents from occurring so that way we can maybe put them directly in contact with the resources from the rape crisis center or battered women and children's shelters," police Chief Anthony Trevino said.
