Nearly three dozen fresh faces got their first taste of what it will take to become a licensed peace officer.
On Monday morning cadets got a lesson in following orders. To complete the 33-week academy, recruits will get their fair share of physical training. Classroom and skills instruction will also shape the officers-in-training.
Chief Anthony Trevino was on hand to offer some encouragement.
“It's extremely important for them to understand and realize is that this is a great opportunity for them. More importantly, they are the future of the organization,” he said.
The recruits cannot have another job or attend college during training. However, they do make a salary and receive city benefits throughout their time at the academy.
