1. Gov. Greg Abbott announces $5K reward for information on Venezuelan gang
Gov. Greg Abbott is continuing statewide efforts to put a stop to a Venezuelan gang he says poses an increasing danger to Texans. On Monday, the governor announced a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of known or suspected members of Tren de Aragua (TdA).
Last week, the governor announced a plan to halt the gang and designated it as a foreign terrorist organization. The plan includes creating a strike team made up of Department of Public Safety highway patrol troopers, special agents and Texas Rangers who will target the gang’s criminal operations.
2. City of Austin, Austin Police Association reach tentative agreement
The City of Austin and the Austin Police Association (APA) reached a tentative agreement that Mayor Kirk Watson says “is a positive new chapter in the future of public safety in our city.” The tentative agreement includes officer pay increases and historic changes to police oversight, according to the union.
The proposed contract represents a 28% increase for Austin police officers over five years with a total value of $217.8 million.
3. Harris explicitly calls for end of filibuster to restore abortion protections
In an interview with Wisconsin Public Radio that aired Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris explicitly called for the elimination of the filibuster — the 60-vote threshold needed to pass major legislation in the U.S. Senate — to restore the abortion protections guaranteed in Roe v. Wade.
It’s Harris’ latest effort to put reproductive rights — an issue that her campaign and other Democrats see as crucial to victory — front and center with just weeks to go until November’s election.
4. Former Packers QB Brett Favre says he's been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease
Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre said he’s been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
Favre shared the news during his testimony at a congressional hearing on a welfare misspending scandal in Mississippi.
Favre, who does not face criminal charges, has repaid just over $1 million in speaking fees funded by a welfare program in the state and was also an investor in a biotech company with ties to the case. The biotech firm has said it was developing concussion treatments.

Those traveling through Houston’s George Bush International Airport (IAH) will soon be able to dine like the G.O.A.T. Olympic Gold medalist Simone Biles is opening a new restaurant, Taste of Gold, according to a news release from the airport.
Biles’ new restaurant is under construction inside IAH Terminal A and will open near Gate A8 at the top of 2025.
