Meet your D.C. Reporter

 

Margaret Chadbourn is a political reporter for Spectrum News in Washington, D.C.

Since joining Spectrum News in 2018, Chadbourn has reported on the political and policy debates dominating Washington with a special focus on news impacting Texas for stations in Austin and San Antonio. She also regularly appears on Spectrum News television stations across the country. 

On Capitol Hill, she provides in-depth coverage of the day’s top political stories, including the fight over immigration policy, the investigation into Russian interference in U.S. elections, and the confirmation of Justice Kavanaugh. She reports extensively on issues surrounding the U.S.-Mexico border and recently traveled there to cover the surge of asylum seekers. 

During the 2016 election, Chadbourn contributed to ABC News’ coverage as a digital journalist. She was also a producer and part of the “Good Morning America” team that won an Emmy award for best morning broadcast for network television. 

Previously, she worked as a field producer for Fox News, covering stories ranging from the unrest in Ferguson, Mo., to the mass shooting at a Charleston, S.C., historic church. She served on the Radio Television Correspondents’ Association while at Fox and ABC.

Chadbourn spent nearly a decade covering the Treasury Department, Federal Reserve, White House, Congress and economic policy for news wires, including Reuters, Bloomberg, and Market News International. She reported on the 2008 financial crisis and the government’s response to the near collapse of the global markets. While at Reuters, Chadbourn also reported on President Obama’s White House and his re-election campaign. 

Before becoming a wire reporter, she was a local news producer at WTVC in Chattanooga, Tenn., a job she took on while still enrolled in college, and later at WJLA in Washington, D.C. Chadbourn first worked as an on-air reporter starting in 2017 at WCBD-TV in Charleston, S.C.

Born and raised in Alexandria, Va., she holds a bachelor’s degree from Sewanee: The University of the South, where she was Editor-in-Chief of the college newspaper. Chadbourn lives with her husband, also a journalist, in Washington, D.C. She is a marathon runner and avid triathlete.
