Forever 21, a popular fast-fashion retail store, announced they submitted a voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing on March 17.  With over 500 locations globally, this comes with a huge impact on Texas shoppers.

This is the second time in six years that the company has filed for bankruptcy.

Forever 21 was founded in 1940 in Los Angeles, California, under operator F21 OpCo. 

The operator is working to see if the company can continue with a new buyer or if they will have to liquidate all assets – but it’s unclear when physical stores will officially close.

“We are also grateful for the many years of support from our partners and our loyal customers, who have allowed us to serve as a fashion industry leader and go-to retailer for generations,” said Chief Financial Officer Brad Sell in a statement. 

While the store’s website remains open and functioning, many state locations are closing – including in Texas.

This also comes in wake of competition from other fast fashion retailers, such as Shein.
