ARLINGTON, Texas — One person was killed during shooting Wednesday at Bowie High School, and a suspect is in custody, according to Arlington police. That person was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

According to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner, the deceased has been identified as 18-year-old Etavion Barnes.

The suspect was booked into Arlington County Jail on one count of murder.

The district said the shooting happened outside the school just before 3 p.m., and the school went into lockdown.

In a statement, Arlington ISD Superintendent Dr. Dr. Matt Smith said the district has canceled classes at Bowie High School for Thursday, April 25.

"When students return to class, they will have the full support of our counseling team for as long as needed," he said.

This is a developing story.
