HUMBLE, Texas — A woman has been arrested by Humble Police Department after she attempted to sell a car she had rented, the department said.
According to Humble police, an officer was contacted by a citizen regarding a 2022 Toyota Camry he had found online and was trying to purchase. However, he believed the vehicle was stolen. The citizen had previously met with the seller of the vehicle who was offering the almost brand new car at about half its value.
The seller and citizen agreed to meet at a later date to complete the transaction. The citizen took a picture of the seller’s Texas driver’s license and the title to the car.
The buyer thought the license looked a little off, and after running the information on the license, nothing matched the ID. The officer was able to use the VIN on the fake title to contact the actual owner of the vehicle, who stated that the car was actually a rental.
The buyer then set a time to meet with the seller to complete the transaction to arrange a buy/bust situation. After the two agreed on a price of $10,000, the female suspect was taken into custody for third-degree felony auto theft and second-degree felony tampering.
