BROCKPORT, N.Y. — A Brockport teen is making a big move this weekend, for a life-saving reason.

Like his father, 17-year-old Ethan Di Iulio loves working on cars.

What You Need To Know

  • Ethan Di Iulio is moving to New York City to receive a heart transplant, but he's staying positive

  • He loves working on cars, just like his dad

  • He even has a YouTube channel devoted to it

  • Ethan hopes to be back in his garage early next year

“As much of a pain as a lot of it is, it’s fun to have something to come out and do and work on," Ethan said. "And when you finish it, it’s super rewarding.”

He even has a YouTube channel devoted to it.

“I go to car events and just film, so over time it’s gotten me big opportunities,” Ethan said.

And at just 15, he bought and restored a 1983 Toyota Supra with his own money.

“I’m guessing I put somewhere around 800 hours into this car,” Ethan said.

But Ethan won’t be working in his garage for a while.

He needs work under the hood, too, and is moving to New York City to receive a heart transplant.

“The last two years, he’s really gone, like, his heart health has deteriorated," his mother, Patti Di Iulio, said. "And they diagnosed him with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which is a disease of the heart muscle.”

The idea would scare most people, but this teen is staying positive.

“I’m ready to just get there, and I have so much support from my friends and family. And where I work, the Little Speed Shop, everyone there is just absolutely amazing,” Ethan said.

He’s moving there with his mother, while his father and sister stay behind.

“He's such a strong kid, it blows my mind," his father, Paul Di Iulio, said. "It’s gonna be tough not having either of them here. I’m sick for lack of a better-well, I’m completely bummed about it.”

But Ethan hopes to be back sometime early next year, restored and running better than ever.

“Afterwards, everything is going to be different. Like, I’m going to come out of it way stronger than I ever was before," Ethan said. "So it’s definitely going to be something good.”

A family friend has set up a GoFundMe for Ethan’s journey, which can be found here. You can also follow Ethan's YouTube channels for updates in his journey here.
