LOUISVILLE, Ky. —The 151st runnings of the Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby. Oaks Day is Friday, May 2, and the Derby is Saturday, May 3.
The top 18 horses, according to their points, earn a spot in the starting gate for the Run for the Roses. For the Kentucky Oaks, it’s the top 14 point earners in the gate. The Kentucky Derby features three-year-olds and they run 1 1/4 miles. The Oaks features three-year-old fillies, but is only 1 1/8 miles long.

Trainer Kenny McPeek won the Oaks in 2024 and he's hoping to make it back to the Winner's Circle with Take Charge Milady. But Good Cheer is the Oaks favorite is trained by Brad Cox. Cox a Louisville native trained 2021 Kentucky Derby winner, Mandaloun.
