HONOLULU — The Honolulu Police Department sent out a request asking for the public’s help to find a suspect accused of throwing a chemical substance on a woman near Ala Moana Center.

The 25-year-old victim said she was walking near Planet Fitness on Tuesday around 9:15 p.m. when an unknown man threw a liquid on her that caused her skin and clothes to burn.

The woman ran into Planet Fitness asking for help. She sustained severe burns to her body and paramedics took her to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

According to police, the suspect fled the scene on foot, moving toward Kapiolani Boulevard. Police described him as a man in his 20s, with a height of about 5-feet and 8-inches, a weight between 160 to 180 pounds, and a medium build.

At the time of the attack, the suspect was wearing a black hoodie, camouflage-print pants, and a white face mask. After, on Kapiolani Boulevard, another person handed the suspect a bicycle. Later, security footage shows the suspect shirtless with a black backpack riding the bicycle on Kapiolani Boulevard toward the Hawaii Convention Center.

Honolulu police classified the case as a second-degree attempted murder and said the investigation is ongoing. The police ask anyone with information to call them.
